The breed was originally bred in the Cheviot Hills area near the border between England and Scotland. The dogs were initially used to help farmers drive predatory foxes from their dens and kill them. The dogs are about 13-16 inches (33-41cm) high and the females are about 11-14 inches (28-36cm). A border terrier puppy breeder will have a picture of the newborn litter available.
