Both Border Terrier parents should have OFA certificates for hips and CERF certificates for eyes. Ask your breeder about heart defects, low thyroid, luxating patella and allergies in the lines. Border Terriers are considered rough dogs that are relatively insensitive to pain.

Border Terriers do not appear to suffer from any serious hereditary diseases. Such illnesses like teeth defects, seizures, and deafness or skin disease have been reported to be problems in Border Terriers. However, these are treatable conditions. Dog breeders may take photos of their puppies.
