Border Terriers - General Description
Border Terriers are small, active and agile dogs that are strongly built and medium-boned. The Border Terrier's hard coat is weather resistant. The outercoat is wiry and the undercoat is rather soft. The coat can be of red, blue and tan or grizzle and tan hues. The Border Terrier is a working dog. Its size enables it to go to ground and its conformation should be such of a dog built for work. The Border Terrier should be capable of squeezing through narrow apertures.
The Border Terrier's head is often compared to that of an otter. Intelligent eyes are of a dark hazel color. Small ears are V-shaped, and moderately thick. The muzzle is dark with a few short whiskers. The nose is black. The strong teeth meet in a scissors bite.
The dog's neck is muscular and gives a well-balanced appearance. The body is fairly narrow and long. The happily carried tail is short and somewhat thick at the base.
Border Terriers - Temperament
The Border Terrier is affectionate and good-tempered. The breed has a distinctive temperament of a terrier. The dog is obedient and highly responsive to training. Border Terriers love children and usually become their best friends in the family. Border Terriers display great determination in the field.
